The Mad Dash started in 1997 and is an award for the furthest straight out glider flight from Hollister. The current minimum distance required to win is 538 SM (statute miles) (10% longer than the current record of 489 SM)

The first winner must fly at least 150 statute miles and launch from the Hollister Airport. If there is a tie on the same day, the one with the fastest time will win. You must beat the previous winner's distance by at least 10%. The winner will receive $500 in tows from Hollister Gliding Club plus a rotating trophy. Distance will be measured from Hollister Airport to the landing site. Out and returns and broken legs will not be counted.
