Introductory Glider Pilot Training

This is the first step to becoming a glider pilot. The frequency of our half-day introductory glider pilot courses is based on student demand which varies depending on the time of year. Please call to let us know if you are interested and we will try to find a day that works for you and the other students interested at that time in attending a half-day course. We typically have 2-3 students per instructor in our classes. If you have a friend or two that is interested we can set up a private group session for you and your friend(s). Along with a one-hour ground course each student will have a glider preflight orientation and take a flight lesson with their instructor. The duration of the flight lesson will be based on the Introductory Lesson option chosen. While the other students are flying you will train with our flight line crew to learn safe ground handling and launching procedures. After the course one or more of our instructors will treat the class to lunch at our local airport diner where they can answer any questions you have about our training program and do a little hangar flying (pilot slang for telling flying stories).

Our $399 private 2-hour introductory lesson can be scheduled on almost any day except a Tuesday or Wednesday. This lesson includes a 40 minute ground lesson and about an hour of flight training. Students are welcome to hang around before or after their private introductory lesson to train with our flight line crew.

Just let us know when you call to schedule that you would like the introductory lesson option. A glider pilot's log book, training manual and 3-month membership in the Soaring Society of America are included with all the introductory lessons.

       Duration of flight lesson portion is approx. 1 hour
