About the Hollister League

The 2009 Hollister League will start 5/2/2009 and end 5/31/2009. We will compete every Saturday and Sunday.

The goal is to fly cross country and have fun in a competitive environment by creating an informal series of contests with minimum rules. The idea is to give incentive to both novice and experienced pilots to fly XC out of Hollister.

There will be emphasis on assisting novice pilots with flight planning, strategies, and helping them out if they are struggling on course. Radio communication for this purpose will be encouraged.

I (Ramy) will be available for mentoring along the first leg upon advance request. Also the BASA two-seaters will be available for those who would like to fly with experienced XC pilots.

There will be a briefing every morning at 10:00 AM, unless noticed otherwise.

The contests will have the following structure and rules:

1 - The scoring will be based on OLC League points, which is based on the fastest speed achieved in a 2-½ hour window. The optimum window is automatically calculated by the OLC software based on the submitted IGC-file. The score is already corrected according to the glider's handicap, and is available under the OLC-League tab in every flight. Click here for OLC League rules. Click here for step by step instructions how to submit flights to OLC.

2 - All tasks will be pilot selected speed tasks (PST) with a predetermined route or Assigned Area Tasks (AAT).

3 - Water ballast is optional, but has 5% penalty unless it is dumped early enough before the scoring is calculated.

4 - For the novice XC pilots or low performance gliders we will recommend a shorter task along the same route as other pilots, and thus achieve higher XC speed, giving them a chance to win (generally the shorter the task the faster the speed).
Experienced pilots are encouraged to help novice pilots by calling their thermals.

5 - At least one turn point must be made to score. Relights, landouts and straight outs are scored as well. In case of a tie the longer distance will win.

6- Daily results will be published on the HGC web site and hgcgroup .Both pilots score in 2 seaters.

7 - No need to sign up, but please send a note to hgcgroup the prior day to let us all know who is planning to participate.
